New beginnings this spring!

After a slow start, the wave of pink flowery 'sakura' clouds are finally making their way up the islands of Japan fast and furious with reports coming in of Tokyo having now reached full bloom!

We're about halfway through spring but there's still plenty to look forward to, especially with the latest from the Japanese government to end all remaining border control measures, including proof of triple vaccine status or negative PCR test, for overseas travellers from 8th May!

And what new beginning is complete without a lucky Japanese 'daruma' doll to mark the occasion? This month, we will be shining a bit of extra fortune on three winners with a 'daruma' doll money bank giveaway to keep fortune in! We'll also be celebrating Japan as one of the Post Office's Hottest and Top 10 Best-Value Destinations in 2023, all while thinking about this month's theme of 'SONO HI WO TSUKAME'.

Seize the day!

This month, we bring to you the Japanese equivalent of ‘carpe diem’. With ‘TSUKAME’ meaning ‘seize’ or ‘catch’ and ‘HI’ meaning ‘day’, ‘SONO HI WO TSUKAME’ mirrors the English translation of the famous Latin phrase: ‘seize the day.’

It means to live in the moment and not dwell on the future or the past. Nothing embodies that phrase more than the fleeting cherry blossoms of Japan. Lasting for a mere two weeks at most, the beautiful buds are great reminders to enjoy things as they come. So next time you're coming back from the shops, be sure to stop and admire the springtime flowers 🌸

Let's take a look into how Postcards from Japan guests are seizing their days:

Here's some of what we learnt this month:
1) Japan's ability to blend Halloween into something cute yet terrifying makes visiting theme parks in autumn a must! 🎢
2) Good things come when you just make the things you're proud of 🎶
