And...we're off!

Just as the British sun decided it was needed for a heatwave in Japan, the Japanese rainy season decided to take that holiday to the UK it had always dreamed of, in what feels like the Freaky Friday reboot nobody asked for!

Still, with borders now officially open and more travel providers offering spaces on guided tours from as early as July, the weather is not the only thing hotting up in Japan! Check out our Further reading section below for some specific tours.

Let’s take a look at our adorable Hello Kitty giveaway, see what else is happening in Japan right now, get some inspiration for later, and explore our Postcards from Japan on this month's theme of 'OMOTENASHI'.

The customer is always...god?!
You read that right!
Our Japanese word(s) of the month, OKYAKU-SAMA WA KAMI-SAMA, literally translate to 'the customer is god' and provides a sneaky peek into the mentality that powers the Japanese customer service industry.

Has the penny dropped yet? Every time you're handed an 'o-shibori' hand towel with a meal, every time you're seen off with a bow in the hotel lobby, every time the waiter chases you down to return what you meant to leave as a tip - it all comes back to one phrase. And that phrase is the reason we keep coming back!

All this has us reminiscing on the ultimate experience in customer satisfaction - the convenience store! We looked back on what our Postcards from Japan had to say about it.

Here's what we learnt along the way:
1) All you need is canned coffee, fried chicken and plum onigiri to lead the good life! 🍙
2) Even during natural disasters, convenience stores play a vital community role 🚨
3) Nothing kicks off a Tokyo night out like a drink and snack run at 7 Eleven 🏪
