Have you heard the good news?!

Pop the telly on in Japan come May and you're sure to catch a slice of traditional culture as the Emperor's Cup continues at pace in Tokyo, while on the streets people are out celebrating Children's Day, Sanja Matsuri festival and the long Golden Week holiday!

For us, though, the best news came when Prime Minister Kishida announced the initial stage of border reopening, with escorted group tours being the first to be allowed back into Japan starting from as soon as June 10th. A huge step in a very positive direction! 🎉

Let’s take a look at our exciting giveaway with Duolingo, see what else is happening in Japan right now, get some inspiration for later, and explore our Postcards from Japan on our tummy-rumblin' theme of UMAI.

Taste beyond belief
When that heavenly ramen or piping hot okonomiyaki hit the spot, there is only one thing you can say to let the chef know they’ve just changed your culinary life -‘UMAI’!

It’s a casual way of expressing your appreciation for food right after you have taken the first bite. Meaning ‘delicious’ or ‘tasty’, it goes a step further than ‘oishii’ in describing how tickled your inner foodie is. It's often shortened to 'UMA' because who has time to finish words when food tastes this good...

This month we're looking back on some of our favourite foodie interviews with our friends in Japan:

Here are a couple of things we learnt along the way:
1) Kyushu's delicious beef grabbed all three top spots in the Wagyu Olympics! 🍖
2) Soy meat is becoming more and more popular on vegan menus at fast food chains🌱
3) For a taste of Japanese summer, try drizzling plum wine over 'kakigori' shaved ice 🍨

That’s it from us for this month!
