Refreshed and ready

Spring in Japan spells the end of the financial and academic year and is seen as the end of the old and the start of something new - a season filled with optimism for new ventures and opportunities to shine.

This month, the UK saw the airports abuzz with holiday-makers, while Japan inched ever closer to fully reopening, by upping the daily cap on valid visa-holders entering the country, as well as allowing parents of foreign residents to visit their children.

Let’s take a look at our exciting giveaway with the Royal Academy of Arts, see what else is happening in Japan right now, get some inspiration for later, and explore our Postcards from Japan on April's theme: NANAKOROBI YAOKI!

I get knocked down (and I get up again)
Failure isn’t always a bad thing - this month we’re introducing you to a (literally) uplifting Japanese proverb, NANAKOROBI YAOKI (七転び八起き)

Meaning ‘fall seven times, get up eight’ it conveys the message that, when faced with difficult times, the only thing to do is to rise back up.
No one knows this better than the very symbolic 'okiagari-koboshi' wobble doll of Fukushima prefecture - it's not the fall that matters, but what you make of it!

This month we had a chat with our friends in Japan about what's kept them bouncing back:

Here are a couple of things we learnt along the way:
1) Fukushima's British Hills sells quality scones and coronation chicken sandwiches 🥪
2) Mt Hakodate's more than just views - it's secret ruins and abandoned army outposts⛰️
3) Dairyuji Temple is a centre of the community, full of art shows, markets and music ⛩️

Read on below for more

That’s it from us for this month!
