Bloomin' beautiful

March surprised us in the UK with the grand return of sunshine and t-shirt weather. Meanwhile in Japan, people started the month reminiscing about the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake in Tohoku but as time went by the spring blossom fever took the stage.

This month, we have partnered up with Modern Films to celebrate Japanese culture through cinema and we're organising special screenings for all Japan-fans! We'll be watching the BAFTA-winning and Oscar®-nominated film, DRIVE MY CAR, by Ryusuke Hamaguchi, adapted from the short story by Haruki Murakami.

Let’s take a look at our exciting Drive My Car partnership, see what else is happening in Japan right now, get some inspiration for later, and explore our Postcards from Japan on March's diverse theme, JUUNIN TOIRO!

Celebrating differences
Not a fan of busy streets but your friend wants to experience a proper night out in Osaka?

Everyone has their own ideas and taste which is perfectly expressed by our word of the month, JUUNIN TOIRO 十人十色.

Literally meaning 'ten colours, ten people', this beautiful proverb shows us the value of diversity in all aspects of life, from everyday situtations to travel.

You can create your own, special story in Japan filled with your favourite things, whether it’s a slow day in the traditional Ouchijuku village or an adventure in Lake Shirakawa's submerged forest!

This month we had a chat with our friends in Japan about what makes them different and their own unique experiences.

Here are a couple of things we learnt along the way:
1) The Japan Buddhist Federation has issued a rainbow inclusivity sticker designed by Kodo to be displayed at temple entrances 🌈
2) More and more organic farms across Japan now welcome visitors and volunteers 🌾

That’s it from us for this month!
