Say hello to adventure!

January was a month filled with resolutions, but with the amazing news of test-free returns to the UK for fully vaccinated travellers from later this month, this time round the new year might not be looking so bad.

In Japan, while the north was seeing record-breaking snowfall, Okinawans got to enjoy the first cherry blossoms of the year. Meanwhile in Aichi, the Studio Ghibli Theme Park announced that its official opening date will be the 1st of November this year!

Let’s take a look at what else is happening in Japan right now, get some inspiration for later, and explore our Postcards from Japan on January's pulse-pounding theme of DOKI DOKI!

Can't stop the beat
Whether you're excitedly peering down a ski slope in Hokkaido or nervously awaiting a lateral flow result, DOKI DOKI ドキドキ,  is a very common way of describing life's many thrills and spills!

It's a juicy onomatopoeia that is most often used to describe the beating of the heart, and all the emotions that come with it.

We're getting a serious case of the DOKI DOKIs just thinking about what awaits us in 2022. It's our second chance to re-do 2020 the right way, so no pressure!
Cheers to all the memories waiting to be made!

This month we had a chat with our friends in Japan and the UK about all the things that make their hearts skip a beat...

Here are a couple of things we learnt along the way:
1) Starting from 100 yen sushi, Tokyo is more affordable than you might think! 🍣
2) Umeshu plum wine/liqueur is one of Japan's most enjoyed beverages 🥃
3) To capture Japanese streets, wander beyond the normal photography hot spots 📸
