Seasonal gift ideas, hidden histories and unforgettable hikes in rural Japan

December already?!

Autumn is coming to a close with the trees left bare and the wind whistling through their empty branches.
While we dream of a white Christmas, in Japan, the leaves are slowly being replaced by glittering snow, meaning only one thing: it's ski season!
Let's see what's happening in Japan right now, explore what Japan is getting ready for us later, and read our hopeful Postcards from Japan on November's topic of the month - TABIGOKORO, or, your 'travel heart'.

Listen to your 'travel heart'
When you can't stop thinking about your past adventures, creating dream itineraries and mentally photoshopping yourself into other people's travel snaps, your TABIGOKORO 旅心 - made up of the words for travel ('tabi') and heart ('kokoro') - is surely telling you something!

In November, we had to find new ways to dream and explore whether it was from the comforts of our couches or in local outside spaces. Hopeful for the upcoming year and news of a vaccine, many of us started planning our dream holidays again.

Travel hearts beating as hard as ever, we discovered that those feelings were shared by our friends in Japan. We asked what has been hiding at the bottom of their TABIGOKORO and where their spirit of adventure wants to take them next in Japan.

Here are a couple of things we discovered together:
1) Japan has a sacred ritual of yabusame and it's not just for Japanese people 🏇
2) Japan's world-class powder snow is called 'Japow' (Japan + powder snow) ❄️
3) Hokkaido is sacred ground for raw wilderness and crazy activities like sea kayaking! 🛶
